LINE App Reviews

95 Customer Reviews:

Since I most of my family in Japan uses LINE, I decided to install it on my spare iPhone that I use for traveling in Asia to avoid roaming charges (also because I can not obtain a tel number in Japan). I find it works great for communicating with others as a voice call system and IM/Text system and even more pleased now that they have released a companion app for the Mac (which makes typing messages easier than on a phone). The few con’s I have found with this app are: 1. voice calls drop if a regular cellular voice call is received (GSM phone) 2. unable to block or opt out of unwanted to notices for new stickers and other products for sale by LINE 3. No voicemail for missed calls from other LINE users 4. When incoming calls are received, the app does not automatically open (have to press on app icon) or answer the call when you unlock the screen and can cause the caller to hang up because of amount of time it takes to answer a call from a locked screen Hopefully these will be things that LINE fixes in future releases.

Ive been using this LINE app on my Mac for awhile now. Today I am at a hotel and tried to log into LINE. Suddenly it doesnt recognize me -- (new IP address? I am in the same city) -- and requires me to log in again. But I cannot log in again. I have my email address and password, but those are not enough. It wants me to input something on my Smartphone. You know, the one I dont have?? LINE, I do NOT have a Smartphone. I DO use your app on my iPad, but I have NO Smartphone. I am unable to input any phone number into a Smartphone. Please do away with requiring people to enter something on their smartphone. If you have a doubt as to someones identify, add an option that emails me if I need a password reset (which I dont). LINE tech support is literally non-existent. It consists of a bland list of FAQs on its website. If your issue isnt addressed there, then there is no way to contact LINE to let them know you are having problems. I have enjoyed meeting many people on LINE, but I cant even buy stickers on this version and now I cannot even log in!!!

This app is a nice to have if use on mobile; however, it needs to be optimized for the Mac. Need full window view and not a iPhone emulator as the application.

For some reason, words that are spelled incorrectly in LINE are not being underlined in red… is there a way to fix that? The chats use to sync across all of my devices, not this is no longer the case on my Macbook Air. I can’t get updated messeges on here. Please help fix these issues, thank you.

Only allows you to sign into one computer at a time. Well great, now I have to login every time when I use the computer at work and then again when I use the computer at home. That “Log me in automatically” is completely useless that way. I just want to launch the app and be logged in, no matter whether I’m at home, the office or my phone. I can handle login security on my own, I don’t need this handled for me.

Line requires a smart phone that I no longer have. I was planning to stay in touch with family and freinds using the Mac version, but I signed out on my Mac and now unable to sign back in. Furthermore, I can’t even create a new account without a smartphone. I wanted to use Line to keep my email private but now my only option is to use hang out to keep in touch. Too bad for me

Even with the most recent bug fix update, the app is still buggy for me. It always hangs when I quit it, thus requiring a force quit. If left running for a while, the sound alerts for incoming messages stop working. Sometimes it just crashes for no reason. Maybe it’s just me, but apart from just being plain ugly, Line is the most non-intuitive messaging app I have ever used, even beating Skype for that award. I wish I didn’t have to use this app at all, but I do know some exclusive Line users that I need to communicate with and unfortunately this app is the only way to do that.

Unbelievable what a horrible piece of crap this software is! No sooner do they fix an issue, they break another. Currently, notifications don’t work, which essentially makes it useless. They did work in previous versions, now, not at all.

Like others have said, notification sounds have stopped working. Actually they work twice after restarting, at least when testing it in the settings window. So if you quit and restart after every use, you can have notifications.

As a previous reviewer stated, this is crap. No, you can’t register. First, if you only want to use the desktop/laptop version, you are out of luck. There is no way to register for a new Line account in the desktop version; clicking on the Register button takes you to a screen that just tells you to download the mobile version on your phone. It gets worse… Second, there is no way to register for a new Line account in the mobile version either, unless you have a Facebook account. Ok, maybe I’m the only person left on Earth without a Facebook account, but still… In the Mobile version initial screen, there are two buttons: Login, and Sign Up. Tapping Sign Up takes you to a screen that allows you to Login With Facebook; it also has a disabled Verify Phone Number button. No, Sign Up does not allow you to sign up! If on the initial screen you press Login, it takes you to a login screen that also has a Not Registered button. Clicking on Not Registered yields the instruction “You can register your email by going to Settings > Accounts > Register Email in the LINE app.” Guess what… there is no Settings button in the app; if they mean iOS Settings > Line, there is no Register Email capability there either. Bottom line: new users need not apply.

I didn’t have any major problems until I wanted to search one of the chats for some previously sent messages and couldn’t find them anymore. I don’t know if it was this update or the previous one that changed it, but the history of the chat I searched doesn’t go back past April 9th anymore. Previously, I was able to search messages from before that, and now that history seems to have been erased without any warning, so beware.
